Thanksgiving Comes First!

I long for the days when Christmas wasn't saying "Hi I'm here!" until the day after Thanksgiving. The really sad part is that that wasn't all that long ago!
Over the years, it has become apparent that everything Christmas has been encroaching upon us earlier and earlier in the year. This year is the straw that broke the camel's back. On Halloween, I walked into Walmart because Brian wanted Candy Corn and lo, they had already started decorating for Christmas and stocking the shelves with Christmas themed items right along side the Halloween things!!! Ummmm... what the fuck?!
On Monday, a friend was bombarded with Christmas Carols over the radio. Christmas Sale ads have been popping up on TV. Didn't you know there are only 7 more weeks before Christmas??? OMG Everyone must shop now now NOW!!!
What is going on here? There's a holiday that lives in between Halloween & Christmas, and that's Thanksgiving. Where are the Tom Turkey decorations? The Happy Thanskgiving banners? The Pilgrims & Native American figurines?? Has Thanksgiving been shoved into the back of the closet to make room for Christmas?!
This really is apparent in stores all across America. Thankfully there is still at least ONE store out there that refuses to give in to the hype: Nordstrom. They've even taken to using witty signage. I can't find one for this year, but here's one from a couple of years ago:

I applaud you, Nordstrom. Really, I do. :) Now, don't get me wrong: I have nothing against Christmas. This is just ridiculous! Pretty soon, they will start campaigning for the next year's Christmas on December 26th!

Oh, and before I close this post, I just have to share this clipping with you:

Date: 2010-11-06 12:24 am (UTC)And welcome! I've been slowly making my way through everyone's posts. I'm excited to see so many people joining in on the campaign! It makes me feel better to know that I'm not the only one out there who feels this way.
