Hi everybody!!! (Hi Dr. Nick!). I just got home a little bit ago from Sylvan Lake. Brian and I had a wonderful time. Brian's aunt and uncle were nice enough to offer to let us stay at their lake house, so that's what we did! [livejournal.com profile] diaryofroses lent us a ton of Miyazaki films, so we watched one every morning and every night. We went to Stew Leonard's in Danbury, CT (yes, this is actually an experience) to stock up on food for the days we were going to be there. I was sad they no longer have the petting zoo, however, they still had the Party room. Thursday was just a get settled in day. I Grilled every night except for last night, but we'll get to that later. So, dinner for Thursday night consisted of Grilled Tilapia, grilled yellow squash, and rice. We ate on the porch and drank in the country air..I mean inhaled it. LOL :)

Friday, we decided that a Dutchess County atlas would be very helpful, so we headed to a nearby Border's, which we got lost getting to. As we were lost, but on the right track (we were never truly lost), We were stopped at a light and this elderly woman started walking up to the car. Brian rolled down the window and she asked if we could take her to the post office up the road. We debated and ultimately decided to do so. After all, it was only 3 lights away (still a 10 mins drive). She was a loon, but didn't try to kill us or steal anything, so it was ok. We dropped her off and went on our merry way to Borders (we had crossed the road we needed when we were dropping the woman off at the Post Office). Brian bought an Atlas, a crazy puzzle of DOOM, a cookbook, and got me "Star Trek: A Singular Destiny" by [livejournal.com profile] kradical. Sooooo awesome so far the 2nd time around (first time I read it, I took it out of the library and it was really awesome then too...and now I own it). After Borders, we headed back to the house and I made us lunch. Brian started to separate the puzzle pieces, and doing the puzzle became our afternoon activity. A work in progress, Almost done, Complete, Another view. I made turkey burgers with grilled asparagus for dinner, and started to marinate Saturday's dinner.

Saturday, we decided to do Walk-across-the-Hudson, where you cross over the Hudson on a pedestrian bridge that used to be the bridge for the train. It was really really neat. We decided to do the loop that also included walking over the Mid-Hudson bridge. On the way to that bridge, we read a sign about Bridge Music. Apparently, a composer named Joseph Bertolozzi wrote a composition using only sounds that come from the Bridge. He used mallets and things to make those sounds. Go here to learn more about it. We had a great time and I'd definitely do it again! Dinner on Saturday was Grilled chicken thighs that were marinated in Daddy Sam's Just Slop it On BBQ sauce, with Grilled corn on the cob seasoned with limes. Friggin scrumptious! I suggest everyone try to find this BBQ sauce.

Sunday, we woke up to pouring rain. Oh shit, the grill was still outside. Fuuuuuu!! We had decided the day before that we were going to see "Despicable Me" at a movie theater, so I asked [livejournal.com profile] kradical if he could research where and when it was being played. We ended up going to the Showtime Theater in Newburgh and went to the 1:30pm showing. The movie was cute and funny and awesome and I WANT A MINION! Then we went across the street to the Mall and hit up Game Stop because why the fuck not?! After that, we were hungry for dinner, but there was no way I'd be grilling in the pouring rain (I should tell you that we had no access to an oven, so this was our only source for cooking). So, we went to Uno Chicago Grill. Yummy dinner. On the way to Uno, we stopped at the Regal movie theater down the road and found out they were showing Inception at 7pm. We went after dinner! Never in my life have I ever seen movies in 2 separate theaters in one day. I've done the multiple movies in one day in the same theater though. Inception was amazing and confusing and a complete MIND FUCK! But soooooo worth it. Made for interesting discussions for the rest of the night.

Today was a clean the house day and make it look better than it was when we got there. We finished all the Miyazaki films, took our time cleaning, packed up the car and were on our merry way around 4:45. We hit absolutely NO TRAFFIC the whole way home. That includes the Throggs Neck and the Cross Island! So awesome. We stopped by Brian's parents house to drop of a watermellon and they fed us. I got home at 7:30.

There is no way in hell I will be able to get through Livejournal posts (From Wednesday night til today) in any kind of timely manner. So, if there is anything that needs my attention ASAP, please point me to it in the comments here.

Thanks!!!

My Weekend

I had a really great weekend :)

Saturday: Brian and I went up to Sylvan Lake because Brian's extended family on his mom's side wanted us to go to their lake house. It's located about 30 mins North of where they live. Originally Brian and I were going to drive ourselves, but Brian's Nerve was acting up again, so I drove us to Huntington and then his parents drove the rest of the way. The Lake House is actually located in a Bungalow Colony. I didn't know you could own a bungalow.

I finally got to meet Brian's cousin Kurt. He's a pretty cool guy. I'm hoping he comes to more family functions.

Brian's aunt and uncle gave us an engagement gift :) YAY!! And we had tasty foods and stuff.

Sunday: 20 years ago, my friend Cindy got a severe 3rd degree burn on her arm from using a deep fryer. Because of this, she had to quit her job and therefore could not afford to attend I-CON. She ended up volunteering and the rest is history. Had she not volunteered, none of us would have been in her life.

To celebrate this, she and her husband George threw a Deep Fry party. Sooooo much fun! I got to catch up with a bunch of people including [livejournal.com profile] jbadger, and most importantly John Sheehan. :) Good people, good food, good times! :-D

All in all a great weekend :)

So, I'm back from the Adirondacks. On my No Communities filter, I have to skip 600 entries to pick up where I left off the last time I read before my trip. So, for very obvious reasons, I cannot possibly read and comment on all of these in any form of timely manner.

So, I have a request: If there is anything that I really absolutely need to know about, please link me to the entries in comments to this post. I will have them screened.

Thank you!

PS: I kept a paper journal for the trip, so I will have a full report for all of you in a few days.

So, in a few short hours, I will be on my way to the land of the Adirondack Mountains. I am going on my first vacatiion with Brian :-D Also coming with us are Janet and Beky, followed by Nolan and his gf Julie within the next couple of days.

Lots and lots and lots of hiking will be involved as well as a day trip to Montreal and a day trip to Burlington, VT.

I think the last time I went on a week long vacation was *atleast* 12 years ago maybe more, definitely not less. I'm so ecstatic about this :-D

When I get back, I will try my hardest to catch up in LJ-land. It might take a few days though. heh.

I'll be back on the 24th!!!

So, this weekend was awesome, though it would have been even more awesome if I got more Brian time.

Brian, Janet and myself went to Subway on Friday for dinner and then met up with Nolan at Borders. Brian bought me "Uncle John's Bathroom Reader Plunges into Music". It's sooooo awesome! :-D

Saturday, I walked 4.2 miles with Brian and Jocelyn (my friend Dave's girlfriend) from Brian's house to Carvel on Portion Road and back. Then, around 4-ish, my mom called me and asked if I wanted to go to Lancaster, PA for the night so we could have Amish Breakfast in the morning. She didn't have to twist my arm for that one :) So, my family picked me up from Brian's and we were on our way around 6pm. Sweeeeeeeet! The last time the whole family went to Lancaster, PA together was back in 1998 when my brother was at Oswego. Craziness. I'm also pretty sure that was the last time we all went on Vacation together (Weddings don't count as vacations).

We stopped at Molly Pitcher for dinner (we got Roy Rogers..yum yum yum) and we got to our final destination of Ronx, PA (which is right by Stasburg) around 11pm. Rt 222 is a dangerous road to travel on at night because there are no overhead lights and deer cross the highway often. ::sigh::

This morning, we woke up and went to Hershey Farm for breakfast. Mmm...sticky buns, scrapple, baked french toast, baked oatmeal, and shoo fly pie. :-D As well as an array of typical breakfast foods. Then we bought some Chow Chow and went outside to look at the goats. While being amused by their antics, Scott suggested we take a trip to Atlantic City. He and I were never there and mom did want to go to the beach today to walk along the shore. So, we packed into the car and headed to Atlantic City. On the way out of Lancaster, there were many many cows on farms with some horses and donkeys. But yay cows!! :-D

When we got to Atlantic City, we walked along the boardwalk and then on the sand for a bit. Then it was time to go to a casino. My dad was tired, so instead of walking to Taj Mahal like we quasi planned, we went to Bally's, where I won $24.50 playing the 25¢ machine!!! Huzzah! My brother was ahead at the blackjack table and then the dealer started getting consecutive blackjacks. Damn stacked Cards. So, I split my winnings with Scott (it was his money I was playing with.) My mom had $5 and she put it in a 25¢ machine...down to 5 credits, Scott and I told her to play all 5..and she ended up winning $12.50!! :-D After that, we went to this mall that extends over the water and bought some Salt water taffy.

On our way home, we stopped in Brooklyn for dinner. We went to Original Pizza in Mil Basin (we have nostalgic ties to that pizza place). It was just as delicious as we remembered it to be :-D

And that was my weekend. We just got home about an hour ago.

What did you do this weekend?
