It's Friday YAY!
May. 28th, 2010 03:22 pmAs a handful of my friends head off to Cockeysville, MD (Hunt Valley) for Balticon 44, I am on Long Island for the weekend.
Mom took the day off as a vacation day, so she and I had an epic morning. We went to breakfast at the diner down the road from me (Island Grill), which we hadn't been to since the time that the new management and waitstaff failed at life and the food sucked a few years ago. We took our chances and decided to go there anyway. I'm glad we did! Breakfast was tasty, though the waitstaff could have come by a bit more than just that one time when my mom was already done with her meal. Meh. :-P We didn't need more coffee anyway.
After breakfast, we headed to the Holtsville Ecology Center to go to the zoo. YAY!! I love going there! The animals are so cute, and no matter how many times we go, it's always a different experience. And you can't beat FREE. :)
Highlights from the trek to the zoo include:
- Bobcat climbing down the fence from all the way at the top of its enclosure (this is the new Bobcat that is being housed in the spot where the Raccoon used to be, until it becomes acclimated enough to be moved in with the other Bobcat).
- Not one, but TWO Peacocks had their tail feathers in full display today!! I haven't seen a Peacock display its tail feathers in many many years. It is truly a rare opportunity to see that. They had them up for a good 45 mins before one of them rescinded theirs, and the other one continued to display :-D
- In said Peacock/Peahen enclosure, one Peahen was near the back fence where one of the Sandhill Cranes was poking at his side of the fence. This was going on while one of the Peacocks was trying to get the Peahens attention, so I said to my mom that there has to be a love affair going on between the Peahen and the Sandhill Crane. "The Peacocks just don't understand our love!!"
- The Bears were chillen out in their enclosure. One was laying in the shade near the back fence, and the other was laying on the cement in the shade that's nearby the hamock that is in the sun. This Bear was in full sprawl mode with one of its legs in the air. So adorable :)
It's days like this that I really wish I owned a frakking Camera! I am sad to say that my favorite chickens, the Fancy "Punk Rocker" Chickens, were not in their enclosure today. :(
So, now I am back home and about to start prep of tonight's dinner: Chicken Satay with Peanut Sauce and Cucumber Salad, all from scratch! :)
