The answer to yesterday's Final Jeopardy! question was: What is the (Capital) Beltway?

Everyone who answered, got it correct! For shits and giggles, I went back through the week to see how much money everyone had amassed over the week, and you all did really, really, well :)

And now, we wipe those scores and move on to a new week of Jeopardy! questions!! This time, keep track of what you've earned over the week as it will come in really handy later on :) Today's Jeopardy! question is worth $200:

The Category: Text Messaging

The Answer: I send you "H&K," these two proofs of my love.

Good luck, don't cramp your brain too hard on this one, and remember, NO CHEATING!!

This weekend was really, really, fun! [livejournal.com profile] kradical & [livejournal.com profile] wrenn threw a most excellent party on Saturday night, to which, Brian, [livejournal.com profile] alorarose and I were invited, as well as a bunch of other people, both whom I had either previously met or met for the first time last night.

It was really good to see [livejournal.com profile] suricattus & Ian Randal Strock again. Hadn't see the former since the reading back in August and the latter since February.

The food was really yummy too! [livejournal.com profile] kradical made his own tomato sauce, which is spicy & very flavorful. [livejournal.com profile] wrenn made pulled chicken, and Dale made a baked brie which was to die for!

Had great conversations throughout the night, which brought forth some extremely amusing quotes, such as these gems:

"I do that through all cats and porn!"
"Sadly, this is not Klingon foreplay, this is classic human douchebaggery!"
"Pull up your asbestos Satan panties!"

To find out who said those, see my Twitter feed.

Brian, [livejournal.com profile] alorarose, and I stayed the night. More amusing conversations occured today. We left around 2:30 to go home.

I love my friends :)

The answer to yesterday's Double Jeopardy! question was: What is the (RMS) Titanic?

As [livejournal.com profile] yendi pointed out in his answer, and I'm paraphrasing, that question was not worthy of being a Double Jeopardy! question.

I have confidence that today's Double Jeopardy! question will fit the bill! This question is worth $1200:

The Category: 1912: 100 Years Ago

The Answer: Later Speaker, this Texan was first elected to the House in 1912 and served there continuously another forty-eight-plus years.

Go on, put your thinking caps on, and remember, form of a question, and NO CHEATING!!

Good luck!!

I haven't had a page-a-day calendar in many years, so I decided that this year, I would have one. I decided on the Jeopardy! calendar because I love Jeopardy! and it's also interactive!! That's right, everyone who reads my Livejournal can play along :)

Today is a Final Jeopardy! answer. I do not know why they chose to start with Final Jeopardy! but ::shrug:: whatevs.

So, here's the deal: I'm going to screen the comments and you'll phrase your answer in the form of a question, because that's just how Jeopardy! rolls, and put your wager in your comment as well. NO CHEATING TO GET THE ANSWER!! I will unscreen everything when I post the answer and tomorrow's question tomorrow.

The category is: Holidays & Observances

Answer: The only public state holiday in the U.S. honoring a monarch is one honoring this ruler.

Good luck!

Last NYE, I went to a most excellent party hosted by [livejournal.com profile] kradical & [livejournal.com profile] wrenn and met some really great people who have become near and dear to me ([livejournal.com profile] karistan, [livejournal.com profile] dqg_neal).

January was spent galavanting around NYC and singing karaoke for the first time in many, many years! I also saw Shen Yun at Lincoln Center. It was also the first time I had ever been to the Morgan Library & Museum. The end of January brought woe because Silent Generosity's bass player, Charlie Shada, gave his farewell concert and moved to California and it also meant heading back to Queens College for yet another emotionally draining semester.

February meant dad was going to have an operation. Thankfully, this time, it was an outpatient procedure. He made a full recovery & is in less pain. YAY! Also, I received a package in the mail from [livejournal.com profile] chris_walsh which contained a copy of Dragon Precinct by [livejournal.com profile] kradical. I had no idea he was sending that to me. I'm glad he did :)

March was when we found out that the rent was going up out of the affordable range for my parents, so they had to downgrade to a 1-bedroom, and I had to make arrangements to move in with Brian come May. March was also when my brother tore the ligaments off of his ankle at work, starting a multi-month healing process which included surgery & being on disability for a while. It also marked the passing of my good friend [livejournal.com profile] gldm. He was only 34.

In April, I saw an African artsy film, went to the American Museum of Natural History, attended MoCCAfest & met Jeph Jacques!! [livejournal.com profile] auntiesiannan made me a pair of really awesome socks! I-CON 30 occurred. And I turned 28. On a sad note, my friend Jon's daughter lost the battle with cancer. She was only 4.

May brought A LOT of change to my life. Helped my parents move to their new place and started to get settled in my new place as well. It took a while for me to get used to living with other people & fitting in with the flow of the household. [livejournal.com profile] chris_walsh sent me a most epic sauce in the mail called Secret Aardvark Sauce. I still put it on everything! I lost my wallet around Finals time & thankfully, the person who found it got a hold of me and after some miscommunications, I got my wallet back with all my cards and money in it! What would be my final semester at Queens College ended at the end of May. Good riddance, Queens College!

June started my search for a job, ANY job, and not finding anything as no one was hiring. This was a common theme day in and day out. At least I live within walking distance of places. I walked down port at least once a week just to get out of the house.

July was both my brother's birthday and Brian's birthday. I also got my laptop fixed, finally. At the end of July, I saw THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS!!!!! By far, the coolest concert I've been to in a very long time. And I was finally able to witness my friend Kristin get married to her woman because New York had passed the Marriage Equality bill. They were one of 24 LGBT couples to get married in Central Park, courtesy of The Knot. And my brother proposed to Amy. YAAAAAAAY!!

In August, I attended a reading by [livejournal.com profile] kradical & [livejournal.com profile] suricattus. Then it was epic road trip time! My cousin Sophia turned 1, so we embarked on a driving journey to West Virginia to celebrate. Brian drove until we reached Maryland, and then I drove the rest of the way. It was the first time I drove 65 and 70 MPH, and drove up and down steep hills. It was both terrifying and exhilerating. My uncle created a carnival for the celebration. Polin-Skee-Ball was a favorite. After that, we drove to Virginia to visit the Fried-Bears, who we hadn't seen since they moved a few months prior. We went to Colonial Williamsburgh and then on the way home, took the scenic route: The Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel. Despite agreeing I'd take over the driving once we reached Delaware, I didn't get to take over until we hit New Jersey. So. Many. Trucks. We survived though, and made it home in one piece, just in time to experience the east coast Earthquake a few days later. What a freaky experience that was. The tail end of August was met with Hurricane Irene. We lost 4 huge trees and the power was out for nearly a week. Brian and I camped out on my parents' couches for the duration.

In September, I went with [livejournal.com profile] alorarose to see Within Temptation. So friggin awesome!! Brian and I were in an accident driving home from the grocery store a day later. That sucked BALLS! We were ok, however, and no serious injuries. It's a good thing we were in a van and not Brian's car, otherwise, the accident would have had a much more serious outcome.

In October, I worked a booth at the Fort Tryon Renaissance faire, selling puppets! I bought one myself and then made a video... I really should make another one. I also decided to take the plunge and join [livejournal.com profile] therealljidol. I was really nervous, but people seemed to like what I had to say :) The last weekend of October, it snowed here. No, really. Snowed. Granted, it was mostly mixed with other stuff, but there was still snow! During the storm, a very large tree limb fell on Brian's car, totalling it. D:

November marked 10 years since Billy and Cathy McLaughlin lost their lives in a fatal car accident. It was very rough for me to deal with. I also wrote my first ever fictional short story! I have [livejournal.com profile] therealljidol to thank for that. Thanksgiving was spent in upper Westchester with Brian's family. It was nice. We also got Brian's car back.

December had a bit of a rocky start, but it gradually smoothed iteslf out. Our friends in Virginia now have a new addition to their family. And... I GOT A JOB!!!!!! ::throws confetti:: finally :) I also got to see my friend Eric and finally met his beau after so many years of just hearing about him. And on a sad note, I found out that my 5th grade teacher, Risa Fabb, passed away. She was one of my favorite teachers!

Tonight, Brian and I are ringing in 2012 with [livejournal.com profile] alorarose at our friend Charlie's girlfriend's place. We haven't spent New Years together since we rang in 2009!

Happy Chanukah to all my Jewish friends!! :)

~*::Meow::*~
bonnie_rocks: (Default)
Had a somewhat depressing weekend. Wanted to buy Chanukah decorations so that I can finally decorate and found NOTHING. It's not like I live in the middle of bumfuck nowhere. I live on LI. Jewish people are all over the place. What the fuck, dollar stores?! And Seasons had a sad section for Chanukah. Will have to try again this weekend. Maybe hit Cedarhurst Paper or Party City.

At least I have my Menorah. Will have to raid the parents for their never ending supply of dreidles.

Meanwhile, housemates and I decorated for Christmas. It was my first time ever going out to buy a tree (let alone decorate one). It was... an experience. Picking the tree took about 30 seconds. I've always heard stories of it taking hours and driving to different lots to find the "perfect tree" We lucked out. After going to Family Dollar, the Christmas Store in PJ, and Dollar Tree, we decorated the tree. I was kinda hoping that Christmas music would be playing while we were decorating, but there was no music. ::pout::

While out looking for decorations, I was trying to find clear ornaments so that I could make Chanukah ornaments for myself, but the closest I got to clear ornaments was ALREADY DECORATED clear ornaments. How helpful. -_-

::sigh:: If one more person tells me there's a War on Christmas, I'm going to rub their noses in it!

Question

This question was posed to me on Facebook this morning and it made me wonder what others would choose. So, now I pass the question along to my lovely friends list :)

If you could only have five great science fiction literary works, what would they be?

~*::Meow::*~
bonnie_rocks: (Default)
Bupkis: One of my favorite Yiddish words. Figuratively, it means nothing. Literally, it means goat shit or tiny balls of crap.

You should thank me for not being able to find a picture of goat shit to post here :)

Posted for [livejournal.com profile] therealljidol Home Game. I've got nothing.

Elimination

I was eliminated from [livejournal.com profile] therealljidol this week after a very intense voting period. I was tied for the bottom with two other people up until about five minutes before the polls closed when both of them gained one more vote than me. I was up against a tribe filled with all great entries. Everyone really stepped up their game this week and it showed.

[livejournal.com profile] therealljidol caused me to stretch myself and placed me out of my comfort zone with writing time and time again. I am very thankful that I had the opportunity to stretch my wings. I wrote my first ever fictional short story, which I'm actually thinking of expanding upon. If you came up to me a few months ago and said, "Bonnie, you are going ot write a story and you will be proud of it," I would have thought you were dreaming. Thank you all for reading and giving me the platform in which to write where I felt safe to do so.

I have met some really wonderful people while being part of [livejournal.com profile] therealljidol and have hopefully created some lasting friendships. :)

I will be sticking around to Home Game and who knows, maybe I will be given a 2nd chance later on in the season.
