"Imagine" by John Lennon

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Happy 70th Birthday, John Lennon!! I'm still waiting for the day that these lyrics will ring true for all of humanity.

I left this as a comment on [livejournal.com profile] chris_walsh's Beatles post from earlier today, but I felt that it deserved a post of its own, expanded and editted a bit to make more sense, because why the hell not.

I grew up listening to The Beatles from day one because both of my parents LOVE them. They each have their preference for Beatles era, but it was all there. They own a good chunk of the catalog. Listening to The Beatles greatly influenced my music preferences as I grew up. There was a handful of years that I rejected everything else my parents listened to (didn't everybody?), but held tightly onto The Beatles. As I got older, I learned to embrace it all again. I thought I'd take the opportunity to tell you all a fun story, which come to think of it, I probably told you all back when it originally happened:

Back when Brian was moving from Fort Henry to Das Nexus Haus 3 years ago, I discovered a very rare gem in the basement that layed unclaimed: The Beatles Collection, a box set of Records in near mint condition, with all of their signatures embroidered on the box. The box itself has some wear and tear, but the records have barely any scratches. I was actually really surprised that [livejournal.com profile] mikeprime's dad freely gave it up with no reprecussions.

I did a fangirl squeeee and brought it home, along with "Great songs of Lennon & McCartney" piano book and "The Beatles Recording Sessions" hardcover book of DOOM. One of these days, I will break the records out and play them (Yes, I have a record player! It even works!!!)

So now, today, I have been listening to http://www.kink.fm streaming the entire Beatles catalog in alphaBEATical order. Huge thank you to [livejournal.com profile] chris_walsh for pointing me to it because it is a Portland, Oregon station that I'd otherwise not know about.
