Mermaid Parade!
Jun. 20th, 2010 05:58 pmMy Saturday was awesome! Brian and I left the house at 8:30 to pick up
vampedvixen and then headed into Brooklyn to pick up Brian's brother Chris before heading down to Coney Island for the day.
We decided to go to the NY Aquarium to see the fishies and Sealions, and to also renew our WCS membership. This garaunteed we'd have a parking spot for the whole day! :-D After the Sealion show which was awesome and adorable, have I mentioned that I love Sealions? :) , we met up with Silent Drew and his friend Sonnie in the Shark house. We hung out with them for a while and then went our seperate ways to find food.
Originally, we were going to go to Nathan's on the Boardwalk, but then Chris expressed interest in going to some Buffet place down the road. So, off we walked. He didn't know it was a Chinese buffet, so when we got there, we ended up going to this Deli that was across the street from it. At least my sandwich was good. I still would have rather had a Nathan's hotdog though...
Drew and Sonnie met up with us again, and we walked back to the car to reslather sunscreen. At that point, it was time for us to find a place to watch the Mermaid Parade from. After trying on Surf Avenue, we ultimately went to the Boardwalk, which was at the end of the Parade route. Back on the Boardwalk, Brian started playing with his Devil Sticks and
jcholewa made an appearance, with his body only halfway painted with blue body paint carting around his Hula Hoops. I couldn't see for a good portion of it until the people in front of me left and I moved to the front. Janet was a few people down from me and at this point, Brian and Chris weren't anywhere I looked. I enjoyed watching the parade, and one of the paraders gave new meaning to Squeaker Toys.
The parade ended at 5pm and we all met up again and bumped into Jmax and a friend of his. We walked up the boardwalk a bit and saw Creighton from Ghoul-a-Gogo. I talked to him for a while :-D It was at this point that we branched off from Jmax, his friend, and Janet.
Then Brian, myself, Chris, Drew and Sonnie went on the Wonder Wheel. It was my first time going on it and I had a lot of fun :-D We were going to also go on the Cyclone, but then we ultimately decided that we'd do that next time we're in the area, and given that we have renewed our WCS membership, that will be some time in the not so distant future. :)
After the Wonder Wheel, Drew and Sonnie left us, Chris found a random group of people playing Hackeysack and joined in the game and Brian and I headed back to the Aquarium. The walruses were both asleep on a rock. It was soooooo friggin adorable and I really wanted a picture of it, but alas no camera=no photos. Go figure. LOL
Around 7, We met back up with Chris and Janet and went to Kouros Bay Diner on Nostrand & Ave Z. Once upon a time, this diner was located on Avenue U near Garritsen Ave and was called The Foursome Diner. They moved and changed names a few years ago. Same owners, same menu! So, as far as I'm concerned, it's still The Foursome :-D The owner rung us up and I remarked how it's awesome that even though it's a new location and name, this will always be The Foursome, and so the owner said, "Yea...we're The Foursome junior" :) Heh.
We then drove Chris back home and then Janet home. Brian and I got back to his place at 11pm.
Long and awesome day :-D
