Dear Maura Kelly,

I would really love to know how you could get away with writing this piece of shit. I just read the original article *and* the update and I must say that YOU MAKE ME SICK! What the fuck were you thinking in even writing that article?! It is NOT OK.

I have been overweight/obese most of my life (started getting pudgy in 4th grade...) and I have struggled with it. In recent years, I actually lost 50 lbs (yea, go me!) but I still have a looooong way to go. I'll have you know that I am part of a community on LJ for people like me, and for you to tell us that we are not healthy is just appalling. There are people in that community who have run 5K's and done Triathlons. Have *you* done that? Probably not.

So FUCK YOU for saying we're not healthy. Yes, a good chunk of us might not healthy... but neither are the people who are in what's considered "normal" weight ranges!

As for you being grossed out at the sight of two fat people kissing, if you don't like it, don't watch!

I wonder what would happen if you changed the word overweight to, say, lesbian, or black? (Thank you to Amanda Marsh for this thought) Would you have still written the article?

In response to your "apology" You have dug yourself so far into a hole that there is NO WAY TO COME OUT OF IT! You are forever stuck in that hole and I will *never* help you out of it.

No Love,

Me.

She needs to get shot in the face.

This is really funny, I just read JK Rowling's rant about this from two years ago last night (I was googling Harry Potter miscellany and one thing lead to another...) http://www.jkrowling.com/textonly/en/extrastuff_view.cfm?id=22

Ugh. That is so very not on.

My personal Words To Live By - your weight doesn't matter one fucking bit as long as you are healthy. I am not skinny, but I got lucky and have an awesome body type that makes me look like I weigh around 140 or 150 when I really weigh in at about 175 - which is technically "obese" for my height. My mom has at least 20 pounds on me, but she was the fitness director at the YMCA for years, she doesn't eat much junk food, and she's healthier than I am.

People who say shit like that should be sued.

Some of those comments are pretty funny, lol. But yikes, what a size-ist bitch. I hope she gets ridiculously fat one day.

Best Response to the Article:

"Dear Maura Kelly, I sincerely apologize for my disgusting body and all the various rolls of fat on my person. When I married my fat husband back in June I didn't realize it would offend anyone when we got to that "you may kiss the bride" moment, or we would have skipped it. If I'd realized how unacceptable it is for me to have love or happiness, I would have called the wedding off entirely, of course. I have told my husband that there will be no more kissing or cuddling or FATTY SEX until we both lose some weight. I hope he understands... I really am so sorry for being so fat and happy all this time! In your very honest and sensitively written article "should fatties get a room?" you write that fat people should walk more, yet you also write that fat people walking across a room is something you find disgusting. I take long walks around my neighbourhood most days, is this too much? I want to find the correct balance between getting thin and not upsetting anyone with my jiggling body parts. I also swim twice a week and go to the gym once a week, are these activities also disgusting to you? Perhaps I should start doing these activities at night so nobody has to be offended by them. Do you think that would be best? I don't own a television so I haven't seen Mike and Molly. But I do hope they take garbage like off the television soon. As you say, it's implicitly promoting obesity. Surely anyone who watches it will see the yucky fat people making out and suddenly think to themselves "I should gain some weight, that looks like fun." And then where would we be? By the way, I haven't ever had any health problems before but if anything does come up I'll be sure to stay away from the doctor so as not to be a drain on anyone's health costs. Thank you for writing this meticulously well researched, world-changing article. I really think you are going to cure obesity with this! Yay! Your plump friends are very lucky to have a friend like you who is in no way a hateful bully or an ignorant sizeist jerk. Best wishes, Beth"
