At the request of [livejournal.com profile] chris_walsh, I am going to explain the game of Curses.

Quite a few years ago at [livejournal.com profile] kathrishali's parents house, I was introduced to a game called Curses, which is a party game for 4+ players. The more the merrier. Curses is a card game that comes with a bell typically used at Hotels at the desk to get someone's attention. The rules of the game are simple:

You have two actions in each turn of this party game, the first is to draw a challenge card, which will give you an action that you must perform. It could be a role you have to act out, a story to tell, or an opinion to explain. This really doesn't have any direct bearing on the game. It is a means to get to and then play off of the second type of card you draw at the end of your turn, which is a curse card.

The curse cards are played on other players and force them to continually perform certain actions, such as barking like a dog whenever the player to the right reads a card or hold on to the card with both hands at all times. If another player notices that you are not performing your action, you "break the curse" and turn it face down in front of you. In fairy tales, breaking a curse is a good thing, but not in this game. When you break three curses, you are eliminated from the game, although you are still available to have actions performed on (such as "The other people in the room are electrified. Each time you contact one of them you get a big shock.")

The last player with a curse remaining wins.

Sounds easy, right? Wrong!!! Sometimes, you are so busy cracking up from other people's actions that you forget to do your own. And you can have a whole slew of curses on your plate and lose track of the order in which you have to do them, praying someone doesn't notice. Hilarity ensues!

The time I got to play this game, I had so much fun doing so, but never did get the chance to buy the game. I still want to.

BWAHAHAHA! Cubbi, do you remember when we actually played the game? Because I can't remember for the life of me what party it was or what year. All I remember is that we played Curses and Werewolf and both games were brought by Smergol (sp?)

You had to faint whenever someone rang the bell! And I don't remember the exact date myself, but it must have been 2004 or so? [livejournal.com profile] smrgol_t_kirin might remember :)
