WTF LIRR...
Oct. 30th, 2007 07:23 pmOr "What Happened on my Evening Commute Yesterday"
On Mondays, I typically have class till around 4pm. I grab a bus and get to Jamaica Station around the time that the 4:49pm Express to Montauk arrives. Unfortunately, yesterday, I missed that train by about 30 seconds. So, I hopped on the 5:03pm train to Patchogue (this one is a local with added stops at Mineola and Hicksville).
Everything was going smoothly until we reached approximately Amityville. We come to a dead stop. WTF?! The time at this point is 5:40pm. At this time the sun is still glaring my way and the Engineer of the train gets on the loudspeaker telling us that they will tell us what's going on when they find out. He proceeds to say this every 5 or so minutes for a good 45 mins of sitting in the same spot. Meanwhile, I'm calling my mom to let her know what's going on and talking to Brian in between and still we are sitting. I watched the sun set (one of the many benefits of sitting in the train facing backwards).
Finally, they tell us that we are going to be moving back to Hicksville to switch tracks due to the fact that the switch broke at Babylon. So, we finally move from the spot at 6:55pm. When we got to Hicksville at 7:30, I caught the 7:02 to Ronkonkoma, which was running 27mins late due to a completely unrelated switch problem west of Jamaica. I got to Ronkonkoma at 8:20 and got home at 8:40. It took me 4 and a half hours to get from Queens College to Home. -_-
