I was just informed of an awful *awful* travesty. There's a bagel franchise called Einstein Bros. Bagels that exists outside of the land of actual bagels. Judging by this fact alone, I cannot possibly fathom that these would actually BE bagels.

But I digress. One of my cousins, who lives in Georgia, posted on FB about a new flavor of bagel and it just made me go WHAT IN G-D's NAME WERE THEY THINKING?! The flavor? Mango Orange.

Wait wait wait...what?! Come again?! Mango Orange. Ermmm...I would get it if it was a Smoothie. But a bagel?????! Oh no no no no no no no. That just simply does not compute! Blueberry bagels? Sure. Cranberry bagels? Kinda pushing it, but that can be good. But Mango Orange?! No...just, no.

Upon researching this atrosity, there are people out there that actually LIKE this bagel, and it apparently existed years ago as some kind of seasonal thing. And then it was removed. And it should have stayed removed.

Seriously...WHAT THE FUCK?!

For a chain, Einstein Brothers is quite good. Einstein Brothers and Bruggers are the only descent bagels I can get around here. They don't live up to NY bagel standards, but they are made right (boiled first then baked) and they are sold fresh.

that said, fruit in a bagel is an abomination created by goyim who don;t know better. Let them have their crazy bagel-like bread products. We know better!

There was an Einstein Brothers on Long Island quite a few years ago. It wasn't terrible. That flavor is an abomination.

I remember when they were on LI and was confused because I equated them with any time I'd go visit relatives in Georgia. LOL

I'll stick with pumpernickel.

[identity profile] bonnie-rocks.livejournal.com 2010-06-18 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
The bagel stores around us need to bring back the raisins in my Pumpernickel bagels. They don't even have them in NYC anymore. So sad.

I don't need raisins in my bagels, thanks :P

Wait, so why is blueberry ok in a bagel, but not mango orange? For that matter, why is cinnamon raisin ok as well? Blueberries and raisin are both fruit, right?

[identity profile] bonnie-rocks.livejournal.com 2010-06-19 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
You would eat a bagel that's Mango Orange flavored? o_O

Yeah, I would. You didn't answer my question though. Why are blueberries and raisins ok for bagel flavors but not mango orange?

[identity profile] bonnie-rocks.livejournal.com 2010-06-19 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Mango Orange just does not scream bagel flavor to me.

Cinnamon Raisin bagels are just standard. And what better bagel to have Walnut Raisin cream cheese on?

I'm still iffy on Blueberry. I've gotten one from the bagel shop across from where Brian lives. It's nothing special.

I guess I need to check it out the next time I go visit my parents in GA.

Indeed! And then report back on how it tastes.

Interestingly, there just happens to be an einstein Brothers Bagel shop here in Columbus OH
